- In 1977, a feasibility study was conducted amongst the Sarnia-Lambton social service agencies to see if there was a need for a shelter for abused women and their children in the community.
- The results supported a great need for a battered women's shelter and the Women's Interval Home was opened December 10, 1977, at the former nurses' residence behind the Sarnia General Hospital with start up funds from a Canada Works Grant. In 1980, the Women's Interval Home became a United Way Member agency.
- In 1986, the Women's Interval Home entered into a funding partnership with the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The increased funding from the Ministry allowed the shelter to expand its' support services to Lambton County residents and to facilitate the support groups for women and children caught in the turmoil of family violence.
- In 1996, the Provincial government approved a capital funding proposal for $863,600.00 to build a new shelter
- On November 24, 1998, the new Women's Interval Home officially opened its doors. This new 10,000 sq. foot purpose-built facility has 9 large bedrooms (one handicap accessible), wheel chair lift, enhanced security system, schoolroom, 2 conference rooms, and large secure play ground area.
